Revelation 13:16-18 New International Version (NIV)
16 It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name. 18 This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man.[a] That number is 666.
Some say the title on the Pope’s crown VICARIVS FILII DEI (Vicar of Christ) is the number of the antichrist. This is professed by some Unitarian and Fundamentalist Trinitarians.
D=500 + C= 100 + L= 50 + 2*V =10 + 6*I = 6; 500 + 100 + 50 +10 + 6 = 666
Some Catholics say that Ellen White of the 7th Day Adventists is an antichrist. “W” = V * 2 or 10. “U” = “V” or 5. The Millerites preceded the 7th Day Adventists and some “restorationist” religions have adapted these teachings. Even in the past 100 years, there have been spinoffs from the “restorationist” religions where some members broke off after finding a supposed hole in doctrine.
ELLEN 2* L = 100; GOULD 5 + 50 + 500 = 555; WHITE 10 + 1 = 11; 100 + 555 + 11 =666.
There are some that say it is a tattoo of 666. Others will say an RFID chip. Some even go as far as the Walt Disney logo.
Some say the sign of the cross used in Catholicism is the mark. During Mass it is done by the right fingertips to the forehead, then the chest and finally the shoulders. During Confirmation and Ash Wednesday, the priest does it on the forehead with the right thumb. The key word in Rev 13:16 is “OR” because some say it is only the “sign of the cross” (right hand AND forehead; however, most translations say “right hand OR forehead” and that includes NWT).
The Freemason symbol or the pyramid with an eye in the center found on a dollar bill. Detractors of some religions are quick to point out that their logos resemble these. There is a hand sign that is used to identify being a Freemason and it is called the “hidden hand” (often made by tucking the fingers under the shirt flap) and some religious leaders have been noticed using it.
Some say it is the UN logo or that a religion uses that color scheme on their logo.
Some say it has crept into many “Christian” religions. Some preachers will give a message that one has to wear a certain symbology in order to gain salvation or be united. The “buying or selling” could be that one has to wear this to be an elder in the religion.
What about those who supposedly “sell their souls?” Many accounts of the music industry doing Satanic rituals, using Illuminati symbols (such as the pyramid).
The “heavy metal sign” (pinky and index finger extended, thumb touching the middle and ring fingers) often done with the right hand.
The triangle made by celebrities by touching the thumbs and index fingers.

Here is a nice Jack Chick tract:
What REALLY is the mark of the beast? Has it even come yet? Remember that this is not the opinion of the author but what was read in various articles.
One can always find flawed logic anywhere. When coming up with the numbers in both examples, a “U” was considered to be a “V” given that was how it was done back in the old days. The “W” as two “V” can also be disputed. What is closer to fact is that making the sign of the cross is touching the right hand to the forehead and that the right thumb is an appendage.
Here’s another one worthy of thought:
This is both an interesting and horrifying possibility. As much as possible, we should use the King James Version but the purpose of other versions may be for clarification. I primarily used KJV, NKJV, NIV, ASV. Moffatt and REV are good in clarifying the meaning of John 1:1. Once in a while I may use a verse or two out of NWT. The Message bible is a paraphrase and contains a lot of verbiage.
There is some good news: Revised English Version (REV) appears to be intact because I found Acts 8:37 is present.
I have been reading for awhile about the so-called “One World Religion” where all mainstream churches becoming one. Again, read “church of Christ” and see if your organization matches up. Does it tell the whole story?
https://religiousrealist.wordpress.com/2016/10/17/current-world-situation/ This topic goes hand in hand.
This video could tie things together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cBqrGz2Kcs&t=135s the person speaking seems to indicate that the first beast is a system that has been around for 5000 years and the second beast is not a religious leader but two major super powers; however, it points to the UN and a group that runs the Federal Reserve; parallel with that is the rise and fall of communism (the Bear) in eastern Europe between 1918 and 1989. Technology is a factor (things like television, the worldwide web, the UPC symbol, the chip on credit cards and so on). The speaker seems to think it is not the Pope being the antichrist (which a number of Protestant and non-Trinitarian groups seem to think); however some questions exist.
Given the revelation about the video, the second beast has control of the governments (and politicians), the banking system, the music and entertainment industry, the media, and a very strong possibility of certain religious leaders. It funds wars and these put governments in debt. The anti-Christs and false prophets are tools of the 2nd beast; these religious leaders clamor for recognition by worldly entities and some use God for their personal gain. The movement toward a One World Government (already moving in that direction with one form of currency in Europe, among many things) and the prospect of the One World Religion factors in.

Remember that some of the items presented above are interpretations. The mark of the beast may be multi-faceted and more complex than one may think and it is not limited to Catholicism (as some may think).
Not that I agree about pre-Trib Rapture
https://www.gotquestions.org/sell-soul-devil.html – but can you really “sell your soul to Satan” and is it irrevocable? For that matter, is the mark of the beast permanent? That can easily be answered in Rev 20:4-6 about “being beheaded in the name of Jesus.”
